The Social House

At first glance, this deceiving little hideout in the heart of Uptown’s West Village seems a little quaint. With its small patio facing the Magnolia theater, and the little first floor bar, one thinks the Social House is meant for those looking for a mini place to gather with a few friends. But once inside, you will see a stairway on your left taking you to their cellar-like downstairs restaurant and main bars located below.
The hardwood bars and dimly lit atmosphere provides for great mood lighting. The downstairs has a long and lean feel, much like their weekend crowd. Plenty of eye candy here for you singles. Open for a year this February, 2009, the Social House is definitely that, a place to mix, mingle, and be social. They do have a couple of flat-screens downstairs just in case the conversations around you don’t fit your topic of choice. Their background music (except for Karaoke Mondays) plays a mix of music such as Soundgarden, Goo Goo Dolls and Alice in Chains.
Their bar offers a choice of 20 draft beers the likes of Bass, Blue Moon, Shiner, Sam Adams, Newcastle, and Peroni. Prefer a bottle? Twenty of those too, like Hoegaarden, Heineken, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra and Red Stripe. And, they also have a nice selection of specialty drinks and Martinis such as the Grey Goose Peartini, the Raspberry Mojito, and the ever favorite Chocolate Martini. They host Happy Hour from 4-7 with $3 bottles, $5 wells and $1 off their specialty drink menu.
The Social House kitchen offers a nice variety of appetizers, salads, main courses and dessert. One of the more popular main courses is their organic grass fed Longhorn burger. If you’re there with your date, they also have a deal going with the Magnolia Theater across the street, dinner and a movie for two $50, which is a pretty good deal for Uptown lovers.
