Susan Posnick Beauty Q&A

Why SPF?
We’ve been told wearing SPF daily is crucial—I am very active and don’t like the feel of sunscreen on my face. When I sweat, it tends to run and sting my eyes, and I also worry about it clogging my pores. What do you suggest?
-Ashley W.
Susan: As someone who has had skin cancer, I truly understand the importance of wearing strong sun protection—ALL THE TIME. We need to protect our skin from both UVA and UVB rays, and the purest and most effective way to do this is to use physical sunblocks, rather than chemical sunscreens. The easiest (and healthiest) way to get this kind of protection is in a high quality mineral makeup containing at least 5% zinc oxide and 5% titanium dioxide (like COLORFLO® Mineral Foundation or Philosophy The Supernatural). Sun protection, in this form, is sweat-proof and water-resistant—perfect for an active lifestyle.
Why Green?
It seems like everywhere you turn these days, all you hear about is “green living.” What’s the easiest way to “green” my makeup without needing to become an expert in pharmaceuticals?
-Rachel K.
Susan: First, look for words in the ingredient deck you are familiar with and can pronounce. Usually the fewer ingredients, the “greener” the product.
Second, use products that are refillable, and packaging that is recyclable—less waste equals more green!
End of Summer Essentials
I know it is already September, but it’s still so warm where I live. What are some ways I can keep my summery glow while making the transition into fall?
-Diana M.
Susan: Give your skin a warm golden glow with bronzer for a breezy, end- of-summer look. (COLORFLO®) Foundation or tinted moisturizer with SPF creates the perfect canvas, as they protect and makes the skin look naturally radiant and flawless. To help ease the transition to cooler weather, utilize bright hints of color to help you “fall” into autumn fashion— blue or purple on the eyes (COLOREYEDEFINE® in Turquoise/Topaz, Sapphire/Ametrine or Amethyst/Opal) brightens the face and complements your (faux!) post-labor day tan. Try a cheek color in a subtle peachy pink (COLORME® in Camelia) with a touch of shimmer—it’s flattering on almost every complexion. For the lips, think neutral based pinks and corals (COLORESSENTIAL in Dallas and South Beach) before shifting to darker, bolder colors—the hue will say summer, but a neutral base will help tone it down for the move into fall.
